The Federal Government has allocated N3.6 billion to support tailors through the Skill Up Artisans Programme (SUPA) under the Industrial Training Fund.This initiative aims to strengthen Nigeria's informal sector and create jobs by training artisans.Dr.

Afiz Ogun, Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund, explained that the program is screening applicants nationwide to ensure only genuine artisans benefit.

He emphasized that the goal is to organize the informal technical sector by capturing artisans' data, providing certifications, and introducing a licensing system.

Beneficiaries will receive industrial-grade equipment like sewing machines, electric cutters, and business signboards, along with mentoring and technical support.The program expects to benefit 200,000 artisans this year, building on previous training efforts since 2024.The funding will help tailors scale their businesses, access international job markets, or join business incubation programs.This move underscores the government's commitment to formalizing the informal sector and enhancing artisan professionalism.
