Fire at Utumishi Girls Academy Leaves 16 Dead and Dozens Injured
A fire incident broke out at Gacarage Secondary School in Murang’a County on Thursday night, May 28, prompting a rapid emergency response from county fire and rescue teams alongside members of the local community.
According to Governor Irungu Kang’ata, all learners were safely evacuated from the school premises, and no casualties had been reported at the time of communication.
Authorities confirmed that the evacuation procedures were activated immediately once the fire was detected, ensuring that students, staff, and nearby residents were prioritised.Firefighters, supported by local responders, worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further across the institution.
The governor issued a public advisory urging residents to stay away from the affected area to allow emergency teams sufficient access to manage the situation effectively.
