Republican Lawmakers Defend Trump’s Involvement in GOP Primaries After Thomas Massie’s Defeat
Florida International University has banned two student members of the College Republicans after their involvement in a scandal involving racist and violent group chat messages.
Abel Carvajal, a third-year law student and the creator of the chat, was found responsible for actions violating the university's Student Code of Conduct. He is appealing the decision.
Dariel Gonzalez, the former recruitment chairman for FIU College Republicans, was also sanctioned for verbal abuse, threats, and actions endangering the safety of others, as well as driving under the influence and using marijuana on campus. The group chat, which surfaced over two months ago, contained graphic fantasies of violence and racial slurs, including plans to harm Black people. This incident echoes a prior scandal involving national Young Republicans members who made similarly offensive comments and fantasies.Legal representation for Gonzalez is being provided by Anthony Sabatini, a former far-right lawmaker. The university's actions highlight ongoing concerns about extremist behavior and accountability among student political organizations.
