Former Emfuleni Fleet Manager Faces Fraud Charges in R16 Million Tender Scandal

A 42-year-old former fleet manager of the Emfuleni Local Municipality has been arrested by the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) on charges of fraud and corruption.

The arrest follows an investigation into the alleged irregular awarding and implementation of a municipal vehicle fleet tender valued at approximately R16 million.

According to investigators, the municipality paid a service provider in full for the delivery of 18 municipal vehicles, including UD trucks and bakkies. However, the investigation revealed that only seven of the contracted vehicles were actually delivered despite the full payment being made. The suspect is expected to appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates' Court on Monday, where he will face charges of fraud and corruption.

The case highlights concerns about mismanagement in public procurement processes, with authorities indicating that further arrests may be made as the investigation continues.

This incident underscores the need for transparency in municipal tender processes to prevent financial losses and ensure accountability in public service delivery.
