Former San Beda Red Lion and Chiang Kai Shek College standout John Vincent 'JV' Gallego died on July 18, 2026, at the age of 28 after a road accident.

Gallego was driving back to Manila on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) when his vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier, according to Meycauayan City Police Station chief Melvin Florida.His family confirmed his passing on social media.

A 5'10" guard, Gallego played professionally for the Bicol Volcanoes in the MPBL in 2024 and was part of San Beda's NCAA Season 99 championship team in 2023.He previously played for the NU Bulldogs in the UAAP from 1978 to 1982.Gallego was also a member of the Gilas Pilipinas Youth in 2016 and coached the Colegio San Agustin Makati High School boys' basketball team.Tributes from teammates and coaches highlighted his dedication to the sport and his impact on students.His death has sparked mourning across the basketball community, with many remembering his legacy as a player and mentor.
