Latvian State Police have detained four individuals suspected of systematically abusing animals over several years at a stable near Riga.According to investigators, the alleged offenses took place from at least 2021 and involved organized acts of animal cruelty in which multiple people engaged in sexual acts with various animals.Authorities allege that these acts were recorded in photographs and videos and that pornographic material depicting the abuse was distributed. The criminal investigation was formally launched in late 2025 and remains ongoing.During a police raid, officers seized all animals believed to be connected to the investigation, including more than ten horses, a dog, and a cat.Police also confiscated more than €4,000 that investigators believe was obtained through the alleged criminal activity.Four people have been identified as suspects: two Latvian citizens, one person with dual Danish and Swiss citizenship, and one Russian citizen.
Rather than being placed in custody, the suspects have been subjected to non-custodial pre-trial restrictions, including a prohibition on owning, handling, or working with animals while the investigation continues.Police also stated that the suspect with Danish and Swiss citizenship is currently imprisoned abroad for a similar type of offense.
The suspects are being investigated for offenses related to the distribution of pornographic material involving humans and animals, as well as organized animal cruelty and torture.Authorities declined to comment on whether forensic psychiatric or psychological evaluations will be conducted as part of the proceedings.
