The 2026 Indie Authors Rise Up Book Festival is set to return to Somerset West and Strand from August 14 to 23, marking its fourth year.The event, inspired by the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, focuses on providing open access for self-published writers to connect directly with readers.

Over 70 local authors, including June Mthimkulu—a domestic worker turned cookbook author—will participate, highlighting the festival's commitment to diverse storytelling.

The program features 26 events across wineries, libraries, and cafes, with notable activities like Gloria Arendz's memoir session and a collaborative book unveiling by Helderberg Village Word Birds.

Panels will explore themes such as aging authors, ghosts, and folklore, while workshops address legal and technical aspects of publishing, including intellectual property law.The festival also serves as a training ground for aspiring writers, offering mentorship and resources.
