Fuel Dealers' Dispute Limits Effect of Nationwide Pump Shutdown

A split within the petroleum dealers' association significantly reduced the impact of a nationwide fuel pump shutdown call. While the All Pakistan Petroleum Pump Owners Association (APPPOA) called off the strike after government assurances regarding commission increases and pricing reviews, most urban and semi-urban fuel stations remained open. However, Peshawar saw around 70% closures, while rural areas and GT Road experienced disruptions.

The dispute stems from disagreements over dealers' commissions, which were approved in December 2025 but delayed due to digitalization requirements.

Rival groups within the association further diluted the strike's effectiveness, with some dealers citing agreements with oil marketing companies (OMCs) to keep pumps operational.Despite the partial shutdown, federal assurances promise to address dealers' concerns within two weeks.

The situation highlights ongoing tensions between fuel suppliers and authorities over pricing, quotas, and commission rates, affecting both urban and rural fuel availability.
