Germany appoints Jurgen Klopp as national team manager after Nagelsmann's resignation
The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) has achieved a significant milestone in its Lenacapavir rollout programme, surpassing its monthly targets in the first month of implementation.
Launched on 08 June 2026, the phased rollout aims to provide additional HIV prevention coverage for high-risk individuals, contributing to South Africa's goal of ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.By 3 July 2026, 6,130 eligible clients had been initiated on Lenacapavir across Gauteng, representing 131% of the provincial target of 4,672.The treatment is now available at 133 clinics province-wide, with sufficient stock to sustain service delivery.
Stock monitoring indicates over 7,400 injection packs and 7,500 oral tablet packs remain available, with a second consignment of 9,830 packs received on 26 June 2026.While celebrating the strong uptake, the GDoH emphasized that Lenacapavir is not a standalone solution.
It does not protect against other STIs or unintended pregnancies, so users are urged to continue practicing safer sex, including condom use, regular STI screening, and access to sexual and reproductive health services.
The department commended frontline staff for enabling the rapid rollout and reiterated expanding access to HIV prevention services remains a priority.
