The government has adjusted fuel prices in response to fluctuating global oil prices and renewed hostilities in the Persian Gulf.Petrol prices were reduced by Re1, bringing the rate to Rs334.18 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) prices increased by Rs3.37, reaching Rs386.83 per litre.Taxes and duties on petrol now total Rs110 per litre, and diesel is Rs96.These changes, effective from July 28, follow a trend of weekly price revisions since March due to international market volatility.The diesel price has dropped from a peak of Rs520.35 in April, while petrol peaked at Rs458.41 after rising from Rs266 in March.The daily pricing decision, approved by the cabinet, faces opposition from the All Pakistan Dealers Association, which plans protests.Fuel price adjustments significantly impact middle and lower-middle classes, as well as heavy transport and power sectors.Monthly sales of petrol and HSD are around 700,000-800,000 tonnes, compared to 10,000 tonnes for kerosene.
