Government and stakeholders collaborate to enhance child protection in Tanzania

The Tanzanian government has called for stronger collaboration between public institutions, civil society organizations, and communities to address rising cases of child abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Social Welfare Officer Mr Zachayo Shigongo emphasized that protecting children's rights requires coordinated efforts from parents, human rights defenders, and development partners to ensure safe environments for growth.

A training workshop organized by the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) brought together 60 participants to strengthen grassroots organizations' capacity in monitoring, documenting, and advocating for child rights.

Legal experts highlighted the importance of understanding national laws like the Law of the Child Act 2009, which governs custody, adoption, and parental responsibilities.Participants noted improved knowledge on legal frameworks and advocacy strategies to bolster child protection initiatives.

The focus remains on creating effective referral systems and tailored approaches for children in different situations, such as victims, offenders, or those with special needs.
