Government Maintains Petrol and Diesel Prices Unchanged for Two Days Amid Weekend Price Publication Delay

The government has decided to keep petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices unchanged for July 26 and 27 due to the non-publication of Platts prices on weekends.This decision follows a previous increase of Rs3.66 per litre for petrol and Rs4.80 for HSD on July 25.Current prices stand at Rs335.18 for petrol and Rs383.46 for HSD, with taxes and duties totaling Rs110 per litre for petrol and Rs96 for diesel.The Petroleum Division clarified that the July 25 price hike would remain valid for the next two days.Diesel prices have decreased from a peak of Rs520.35 in April, while petrol peaked at Rs458.41 after rising from Rs266 in early March.The shift to daily pricing adjustments, announced by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, aims to address international market fluctuations.However, the All Pakistan Dealers Association opposes this move, threatening protests.Fuel price changes significantly impact middle and lower-middle classes, as well as heavy transport sectors.Monthly sales of petrol and HSD are much higher than kerosene demand, highlighting their economic importance.
