Tanzania Reports Major Progress in Reducing Antibiotic Misuse and Antimicrobial Resistance Deaths
Prime Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has called on Tanzanians to continue following official health guidance as neighbouring countries report cases of Ebola.
Speaking in the National Assembly in Dodoma, the Prime Minister reassured the public that Tanzania remains free from the disease but emphasised the need for ongoing vigilance.
He explained that the government, through the Ministry of Health, has already stepped up preventive actions, including public awareness campaigns and preparedness strategies aimed at protecting the population.
The statement came in response to a question from Special Seats MP Asha Motto, who raised concern about the country’s vulnerability due to its borders with several nations and the movement of people across regions.
She noted that Tanzania’s strong international and regional connections could increase the risk of cross-border transmission if strict measures are not maintained.Dr Nchemba responded by confirming that the government is actively monitoring the situation and implementing all necessary precautions. These include educating citizens on recognising Ebola symptoms and encouraging early reporting to health authorities for quick response. He stressed that cooperation from the public is essential to prevent any possible outbreak.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that Tanzania’s health authorities are maintaining close surveillance and readiness, ensuring that systems are in place to respond rapidly if needed. He urged citizens not to panic but to remain alert and responsible by adhering to expert advice.Overall, the government’s approach combines prevention, awareness, and preparedness to keep the country safe from the Ebola threat.
