Great British Energy – Nuclear, a state-backed company, is seeking a delivery partner for its small modular reactor (SMR) programme through a £1.08 billion procurement contract.

The successful applicant will provide expertise in programme management, infrastructure delivery, commercial management, engineering support, and risk management.The partnership aims to support the development of new nuclear capacity in the UK, with the programme targeting completion by the mid-2030s.The procurement process includes stages such as initial selection, tender evaluation, dialogue, due diligence, and final selection.Tenders must be submitted by 6 August 2026, with the long-term deal potentially running until 2046.

The government-run scheme aims to deliver a new nuclear power plant using SMRs by the mid-2030s, positioning the UK to capture a market estimated at £500bn by 2050.GB Energy – Nuclear has £2.6bn allocated for its SMR programme and previously engaged Rolls-Royce for reactor design.The initiative underscores the UK's commitment to nuclear energy as part of its energy transition strategy.
