The Gungahlin Eagles rugby club is mourning the loss of one of its most beloved figures, Greg Newham, who passed away earlier this week after battling glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Newham, a dedicated husband to Bec and father to Riley and Harper, had been dealing with the illness following more than a year of tests and uncertainty triggered by multiple seizures.His contributions to the club extended far beyond the playing field, where he featured in 169 games between 2014 and 2023.Newham was instrumental in fostering a strong sense of community, organising bus trips, pub crawls, and ensuring players remained connected.

He played a key role in managing, coaching, and supporting the Bald Eagles side in the South Coast Monaro competition from 2017, helping many current club members develop their love for the game.Tributes highlight his passion, competitiveness on the field, and ability to bring people together.The club plans to honour him ahead of their upcoming John I Dent Cup match against the Tuggeranong Vikings.A GoFundMe has been established to support his family during this difficult time, with the rugby community encouraged to contribute if possible.
