Haryana CM says youth support for PM Modi remains strong amid ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ controversy

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has dismissed suggestions that the so-called ‘Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)’ reflects any real dissatisfaction among young people with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking at an interaction organised by the Women Journalist Welfare Trust in New Delhi on May 25, 2026, he asserted that the youth across the country continue to support the Prime Minister.

He also indicated that PM Modi would be the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) central face in the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections scheduled for early next year.

The term ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ has recently gained attention as a satirical online trend following controversial remarks attributed to the Chief Justice of India in a different context, where comparisons involving unemployed youth were later clarified.

In this backdrop, Saini questioned the relevance of such narratives, suggesting they were being amplified by opposition parties such as the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to project misinformation about youth sentiment.

During his remarks, the Chief Minister strongly rejected the idea that the trend reflected widespread anger, saying he had not observed any such sentiment in his interactions with young people.

He also criticised the opposition for allegedly spreading false narratives, including claims made during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections regarding constitutional risks.

Saini further highlighted BJP’s organisational strategy in Punjab, stating that the party expects to contest the elections with Prime Minister Modi as its primary face, similar to previous electoral campaigns in other states. He also pointed to BJP’s governance record and welfare schemes as factors driving public support.

The statement comes amid increased political activity in Punjab, where leaders from neighbouring Haryana, including Saini, have been actively engaging in outreach efforts.
