Herzog & de Meuron’s Tour Triangle Tops Out in Paris After Years of Controversy

After nearly two decades of planning, legal challenges, and public debate, the Tour Triangle in Paris has officially reached its full height.Designed by Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron, the glass-clad, 180-meter (590-foot) tower is located in the 15th arrondissement near Porte de Versailles and is now among the tallest structures in Paris, only behind the Eiffel Tower and Tour Montparnasse.

Its distinctive triangular shape, tapering dramatically depending on the viewing angle, was intended to minimize its visual impact on the city’s traditionally low skyline while introducing a striking new landmark. The 42-story building will host offices, a hotel, restaurants, conference facilities, retail spaces, and public observation areas.Sustainability measures, such as solar panels on the southern facade, are integrated into the design.

Unveiled in 2008, the project faced significant opposition from those concerned about its scale and impact on Paris’ historic character, delaying construction until 2022.

The completion of Tour Triangle signals a notable shift in Parisian urban planning, reflecting ongoing discussions about modern architecture, density, and the future identity of the French capital.
