France’s attacking trio fuels debate over greatest World Cup forward line
Gresini Racing has confirmed a significant reshuffle of its MotoGP rider line-up for the 2027 season, announcing the arrival of rising Spanish talent Daniel Holgado alongside former world champion Joan Mir.The Ducati-backed team revealed the changes on Thursday, outlining a blend of youth and experience as it prepares for the future.Holgado, aged 21, will make the step up to MotoGP after establishing himself in Moto2.
He joined Aspar’s Moto2 squad in 2025 and quickly made an impression, securing two victories in his debut season and finishing sixth in the championship.He has continued his strong form into the current campaign, adding another win and sitting sixth overall in the standings.Joan Mir, the 2020 MotoGP world champion, will leave Honda at the end of the season to join Gresini.His move marks a fresh start as he looks to rediscover top form within a Ducati-powered project.From 2027, Mir will ride a factory-spec Ducati Desmosedici, giving him competitive machinery in his bid to return to winning ways.The announcement also forms part of a wider shake-up across the grid, with Alex Marquez set to move to KTM and Fermin Aldeguer joining VR46 Ducati.
Gresini team owner Nadia Padovani highlighted the balance between Holgado’s rookie potential and Mir’s proven pedigree, describing the pairing as a strategic mix of development and experience aimed at strengthening the team’s long-term competitiveness.
