The House prosecution panel expressed that there is no valid justification for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.to block the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) from adhering to a Senate impeachment court subpoena regarding Vice President Sara Duterte's tax records.

Prosecutor Leila de Lima emphasized during a briefing that the administration should grant the necessary authority for compliance, stating, 'We see no reason for the President to refrain from giving his consent regarding the subpoena.

' The Senate impeachment court had previously approved some of the prosecution's requests for subpoenas involving BIR documents, AMLC records, and bank details of Duterte and her husband.

De Lima clarified that Section 71 of the National Internal Revenue Code does not hinder the issuance of subpoenas, though the BIR commissioner may seek presidential consent to avoid legal violations.

Prosecution spokesperson Jay Tolosa reiterated the need to avoid preempting the BIR's actions, stressing that the impeachment court's decision upholds constitutional authority without compromising confidentiality laws.The panel viewed the ruling as a victory for transparency and accountability in the ongoing impeachment proceedings.
