The House prosecution team has stated that Vice President Sara Duterte’s decision to appear or not appear at her impeachment trial will not affect the strength or progress of their case.According to House prosecution legal spokesperson Atty.Benjamin “Jay” Tolosa Jr.

, the team remains fully prepared to present their evidence and witnesses regardless of whether the Vice President attends the proceedings in person or through counsel.He emphasized that the prosecution will proceed with its case presentation in accordance with the rules of the impeachment court.

Tolosa acknowledged, however, that there is growing public expectation for Vice President Duterte to personally face the impeachment court and respond directly to the allegations against her.

He said the prosecution recognizes this sentiment but stressed that the legal process allows the accused the option to appear either personally or through legal representation.

While respecting the public’s demand for her direct participation, he reiterated that the prosecution’s work will not be influenced by her attendance decision.The statement comes as the Senate impeachment court prepares to formally begin the trial.The court has issued a summons directing Vice President Duterte to appear at the opening of the trial on Monday, July 6, at 2 p.m., at the Senate session hall in Pasay City.

The trial is scheduled to initially run from Monday to Wednesday each week before the State of the Nation Address on July 27, after which the schedule will shift to Tuesdays through Thursdays.The prosecution maintains readiness to proceed with presenting witnesses and evidence as the impeachment process moves forward.
