House prosecutor and Manila Rep.Joel Chua claimed he arranged for personal security following controversial remarks by Vice President Sara Duterte during her impeachment trial in 2024.

Chua stated that Duterte's late-night online press conference comments, which directly targeted him, made him fear for his safety due to the official's high-ranking position.

He emphasized that these statements were not mere words but serious threats against a government official, highlighting the need to take such remarks seriously.The impeachment proceedings centered on Duterte's alleged threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and others, which became part of the fourth article of impeachment.

Chua argued that the threat level was elevated because it came from a top official, stressing that even if the immediate capability to carry out such threats wasn't evident, the intent and context made it significant.

He also dismissed arguments that Duterte's remarks were conditional, asserting that any statement constituting a threat should be treated as a direct warning.

The case underscores ongoing tensions in Philippine politics, with Chua linking Duterte's alleged actions to her family's history of controversial conduct.
