Judge upholds 60-day jail contempt sentence in Matt Bevin child support document dispute
Christian Castro, an ICE agent, has been arrested in Harlingen, Texas, on charges related to a January 14 shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office charged him with four counts of second-degree assault and one count of falsely reporting a crime after video evidence and witness accounts contradicted his initial account that the victims, Julio Sosa-Celis and his cousin Alfredo Aljorna, attacked him with a shovel.
DHS labeled the arrest 'unlawful' and a 'political stunt,' emphasizing that any disciplinary action should be handled at the federal level. However, Minnesota authorities insist that no one, including federal agents, is above the law.
The incident occurred during the Trump administration's Operation Metro Surge, which deployed thousands of federal agents to the Twin Cities, sparking protests and lawsuits.
Video footage showed that the struggle between Castro and the two men lasted only 12 seconds, contradicting his claim of a three-minute altercation and showing that no one attacked him with a shovel. The shot fired by Castro hit Sosa-Celis in the leg, impacting near a child’s room in the home.
Previous federal claims against Sosa-Celis and Aljorna were dropped by the Justice Department, highlighting discrepancies in the original ICE account.Minnesota officials have pledged to bring Castro back to face charges, reinforcing the principle of equal justice under the law.
