U.S.Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are exploring the sale of several warehouses purchased earlier this year for over $38 million.

These facilities were initially intended to be converted into massive detention centers capable of holding thousands of immigrants each, with some warehouses planned to accommodate up to 8,000 individuals.

The former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem had proposed expanding detention capacity to incarcerate up to 100,000 immigrants simultaneously, in addition to existing facilities.The decision to sell these properties has not been finalized, and they are not yet on the market.

The potential sale reflects a shift in strategy under the current administration, diverging from the original plan of using these warehouses for mass detention.

DHS officials emphasized that final decisions are pending, and the Trump administration’s stance on the matter will determine whether the warehouses are sold or repurposed.The move has drawn attention amid ongoing debates over immigration enforcement and detention policies in the United States.
