The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) has arrested Bello Abubakar, the personal physician to former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai, for allegedly making false statements during a court-approved medical consultation.In a statement by spokesperson Okor Odey, the ICPC explained that the doctor was taken into custody after violating conditions set by the court.

The commission claims El-Rufai’s hospital visit was misused for activities beyond the approved scope, including unauthorized meetings with political figures like Isa Ashiru Kudan.

Photos shared on social media allegedly showed the doctor and others with El-Rufai during his consultation, prompting the ICPC to accuse them of breaching court orders.

The arrest comes as El-Rufai’s bail application was rejected by the Kaduna High Court, which ruled that medical reports he relied on were disowned by the National Hospital.The court ordered the ICPC to allow unrestricted access to El-Rufai’s personal physicians during his trial.This case highlights tensions between political figures and anti-corruption agencies in Nigeria.
