The US Department of Homeland Security cited 'rampant visa abuse' and national security as reasons for the changes, claiming thousands exploited the system by enrolling in courses to avoid leaving the country.
India's External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, emphasized that while visa matters are sovereign, the country will address issues faced by genuine travelers and students.The policy change is expected to significantly impact Indian nationals, who have historically relied on the US for higher education.
Additionally, the US plans to restrict students' ability to switch programs or transfer between universities, a move that could disrupt academic plans for many.
India maintains its energy procurement decisions are driven by market conditions and energy security needs, countering US efforts to pressure countries to reduce reliance on Russian energy through tariffs.
