Karnataka CM Shivakumar Denies Govt Interference in SIR, Accuses Opposition of Political Tactics
India's Embassy in Washington has renewed a 12-month lobbying agreement worth $1.8 million with SHW Partners LLC, a firm founded by Jason Miller, who previously served as US President Donald Trump's chief media spokesperson.
According to disclosures filed with the US Department of Justice and reviewed by Hindustan Times, the renewed contract began on April 24, 2026, and will continue until April 23, 2027.
This follows an earlier agreement that covered the period from April 2025 to April 2026, under which the embassy paid the firm $450,000 every quarter.
SHW Partners stated that it provides strategic advice, policy planning and government relations support before the US Government, Congress, state governments, think tanks and other relevant institutions.
The disclosures indicate that the firm assisted India in engaging with senior officials in the Trump administration after the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack and during Operation Sindoor in May.
Officials contacted reportedly included White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Under Secretary of War Elbridge Colby and then National Security Council official Ricky Gill.
The filings also mention that after Operation Sindoor commenced on May 7, SHW Partners helped arrange an interview for India's Ambassador to the US, Vinay Kwatra, with Fox News anchor Brett Baier.In addition, the firm reached out to various US departments to organise meetings between External Affairs Minister S.Jaishankar and senior American officials, including Vice President JD Vance, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
During July and August, SHW Partners also facilitated discussions with White House officials, the US Trade Representative and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick regarding ongoing India-US trade negotiations.The agreement reflects India's continued efforts to strengthen diplomatic engagement and policy outreach in Washington.
