Indian National Sentenced for Fatal California Semitruck Crash That Killed Three People

A 21-year-old Indian national, Jashanpreet Singh, was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to three felony counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence in connection with a deadly semitruck crash in Southern California.

The collision occurred in October 2025 on Interstate 10 in San Bernardino County when Singh's truck struck slow-moving traffic without braking, according to investigators and dashcam footage.Three people were killed and several others were injured in the crash.Toxicology testing later determined that Singh was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident.

Federal authorities stated that Singh had entered the United States illegally in 2022 after crossing the southern border and was released pending immigration proceedings.

The report also describes a dispute between California and federal transportation officials regarding Singh's commercial driver's license (CDL).California officials said his CDL was issued based on federally approved employment authorization documents. However, the U.S.Department of Transportation argued that emergency federal rules should have disqualified him from holding a commercial license.Federal officials had previously instructed California to review and revoke licenses that did not comply with updated requirements.

According to the report, a restriction on Singh's CDL was removed shortly after he turned 21, and six days later he was involved in the fatal crash. The case has drawn attention to commercial driver licensing policies, immigration enforcement, and federal oversight of state licensing procedures.
