Internet and Mobile Services Resume in AJK's Mirpur Ahead of Elections After 45-Day Suspension

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari confirmed the restoration of mobile and internet services in Mirpur city and its surrounding areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) following a 45-day disruption. The suspension, which affected residents, businesses, and communication, was lifted ahead of upcoming regional elections.Bilawal expressed gratitude to the AJK PPP and election commission for their efforts in restoring connectivity. The decision comes as AJK prepares for elections in three phases, starting July 27.

The internet blackout was imposed after violent protests by the banned Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) demanding the abolition of 12 refugee seats in the AJK Assembly. The AJK government later banned JAAC under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

Bilawal highlighted the impact of the suspension on the public during his election campaign, criticizing both protesters and authorities for punishing the masses.

The restoration of services is seen as a critical step ahead of the polls, which will be held in Mirpur on July 27, Muzaffarabad on August 2, and Poonch on August 10.
