Authorities say man killed near White House had prior trespassing charge and erratic behavior history
On Monday morning in San Diego, two teenagers carried out a shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, killing three people before taking their own lives.
Authorities identified one of the suspects, a 17-year-old high school student named Cain Clark, whose mother had recently reported him as suicidal and possibly armed. The second suspect, 18, remains largely unidentified.Police are treating the incident as a hate crime, citing anti-Islamic writings found in a vehicle and hate speech inscribed on one of the firearms.Investigators revealed that at least one of the teens took a gun from their home and left a note referencing racial pride. The shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m., and police found the suspects dead shortly afterward a few blocks from the center.
Clark attended virtual school during the past year and had no recent in-person school activities, though he had previously participated in wrestling at Madison High School.
Authorities are continuing to investigate potential motives and the broader circumstances, while the San Diego Unified School District has placed nearby schools on lockdown and is providing counseling for affected students and families.
Officials emphasized that hate and Islamophobia have no place in the community, highlighting the broader impact of the attack on public safety and social cohesion.
