IOC and ANOCA recognize Mtaka as TOC president after disputed election probe

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) have officially recognized Njombe Regional Commissioner Anthony Mtaka as the duly elected president of the Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC).This decision comes despite Leonard Thadeo having been sworn in following the disputed TOC elections.

A joint letter signed by IOC Director James Macleod and ANOCA President Mustapha Berraf confirms the recognition of Mtaka's election results, which received 29 out of 36 votes cast during the TOC General Assembly on July 5.The letter also acknowledges Nassra Juma Muhammed as vice president and the newly elected Executive Committee members.

The IOC and ANOCA expressed concern over the electoral commission's last-minute attempt to manipulate results, calling it fraudulent and violating Olympic principles. They have instructed the new leadership to investigate the incident and ensure transparency.

The outgoing leadership is directed to transfer all assets and documents to the new team to maintain uninterrupted preparations for international competitions. The dispute arose after Thadeo was declared president despite delegates claiming Mtaka had won.The IOC and ANOCA's recognition settles the international conflict and upholds the integrity of the Olympic Movement in Tanzania.
