In a significant diplomatic engagement, Iran's Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni visited Pakistan and met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The meetings focused on strengthening bilateral relations, regional security matters, and effective management of the shared border between the two neighbouring countries.

According to ISPR, both sides discussed mutual interests and reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination for peace and prosperity in the region.Minister Momeni appreciated Pakistan's efforts in easing tensions and acting as a mediator for stability.

During his meeting with PM Shehbaz, concerns over escalation in the Middle East were highlighted, with Pakistan expressing readiness to mediate between the US and Iran.

The Prime Minister recalled his recent visit to Tehran for the funeral of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and conveyed good wishes to the new Iranian leadership.

Both leaders emphasised the need to enhance trade ties, aiming to increase bilateral trade from 3 billion dollars to 10 billion dollars through better border connectivity and transport facilities.Momeni, who arrived on Monday night, was given a warm welcome including a police parade and guard of honour.The visit comes amid ongoing efforts to revive the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding amid US-Iran tensions.

Pakistan and Iran share deep historical, cultural, and religious links, and this engagement highlights their continued cooperation despite regional challenges.Overall, the meetings underscore Pakistan's active role in regional diplomacy while focusing on economic and security partnerships with Iran.
