Nigeria Police Face Scrutiny Over Alleged Journalist Abduction
A journalist from Secrets Reporters, Stanley Ugagbe, has gone missing after being allegedly abducted by security operatives linked to the CBN Deputy Governor, Emem Nnanna Etuk Usoro.
The publisher of the outlet, Fejiro Oliver, claims that Ugagbe was taken from his residence following the publication of an investigative report on Usoro.Oliver alleges that armed men, armed with Israeli-made rifles, stormed Ugagbe's home and confiscated his phone and laptop.Despite contacting the DSS and searching police facilities in Abuja, authorities have not confirmed Ugagbe's whereabouts. The incident has raised concerns about the misuse of power and intimidation of journalists.
The report in question, published in January 2026, alleged that Usoro was involved in a matrimonial case and linked to two US properties worth over 4 billion naira. However, these claims remain unverified.Oliver demands the police release Ugagbe or charge him in court, warning against using cybercrime allegations to target journalists.
