Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has commended the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme (KICP) for its 10-year success in restoring Kenya's vital forest ecosystem while empowering local communities.

The celebrations held in Elgeyo Marakwet County highlighted how the project combines environmental restoration with economic opportunities, providing clean energy, climate-smart agriculture, and income-generating activities.

Communities around the forest have benefited from initiatives like grade cows, cooking gas, and commercial cocoa cultivation, which enhance tree cover and livelihoods.The event also featured the third Kaptagat Forest Marathon, a sports initiative promoting conservation, and tree-planting activities.Kenya Forest Service officials emphasized the importance of community involvement in conservation for sustainable development.

Kindiki praised the program's model, noting that local engagement ensures forests are protected while improving food security and economic growth.

The KICP's four pillars—Mazingira Safi, Maji Safi Nyumbani, Kawi Safi, and Pesa Mfukoni—have transformed conservation into a tool for improving lives.The project's success underscores the role of community-driven efforts in achieving environmental and economic goals.
