The Katsina State Community Development Programme (CDP) has successfully renovated over 3,900 public facilities across the state’s 361 political wards using ₦3.61 billion in community-managed grants.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration disbursed the funds to empower local communities to identify and execute priority projects without bureaucratic delays.

State Coordinator Kamaluddeen Kabir highlighted that each ward received ₦10 million, enabling upgrades to schools, healthcare centres, water systems, drainage, and solar street lights.The initiative uses a three-tier framework with community participation from traditional rulers, councillors, women, youths, and elders.Over 1,083 officers were deployed to support implementation, ensuring projects align with local needs.The programme also improved empowerment efforts by leveraging local knowledge to target genuine farmers, artisans, and traders.All wards contributed to the 2026 Appropriation Law, and consultations are ongoing for the 2027 budget.This model shifts development planning to communities, fostering ownership and reducing reliance on external aid.A notable success story includes vocational training that produced plumbers to maintain local water systems.The CDP aims to expand further, addressing vulnerabilities and boosting livelihoods across Katsina State.
