Kenya Met issues 24-hour forecast warning of rainfall in 36 counties and strong winds in multiple regions

The Kenya Meteorological Service has issued a weather advisory warning that several parts of the country will experience rainfall and strong winds within a 24-hour period, beginning Friday night into Saturday.

According to the forecast, rainfall is expected across 36 counties covering key regions including the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, North Eastern Kenya, and the Coastal region.

Counties such as Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Kisumu, Kakamega, Kericho, Nyeri, Meru, Garissa, Mombasa, and Kilifi are among those expected to receive showers.

In western Kenya and areas around Lake Victoria, residents should expect thunderstorms in some locations, followed by brief sunny intervals in the morning before rainfall returns later in the day.The meteorological department also warned of strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 12.5 metres per second in several regions.

Areas likely to be affected include Turkana, Marsabit, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo, and parts of the coastal counties such as Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Tana River.Some South Eastern lowland areas like Makueni and Kitui may also experience strong winds.While most regions are expected to be wet, Turkana and Samburu are forecast to remain largely dry with sunny intervals.

The forecast further indicates that Nairobi and other highland counties may experience partly cloudy nights, morning showers in some areas, and improved conditions later with occasional afternoon rain in high-altitude zones.Temperatures in major towns such as Nairobi are expected to range between 15°C and 24°C.

The weather agency advised residents in affected regions to stay alert due to changing conditions and strong winds that may impact daily activities and transport.
