Vicoty Cheruto, a young woman from Milimani area in Ziwa Soy Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, has finally returned home after enduring a tough year abroad.She travelled to Beirut, Lebanon in 2024 seeking work to support her family, but communication with her relatives abruptly stopped in April 2025.For months, her family feared for her safety and had no clue whether she was alive or dead.It was later discovered that she had been imprisoned in Lebanon for about one year, although the exact reasons for her detention remain unclear.Her safe return was made possible thanks to contributions from friends, neighbours, and well-wishers, along with the help of her local MP, Hon.David Kiplagat, who paid for her flight ticket.Social media users expressed relief and support following her homecoming, highlighting the challenges Kenyans face when seeking opportunities abroad.
The story underscores the risks and uncertainties involved for young Kenyans working in foreign countries and the importance of community support in facilitating their safe return.
