A traditional healer from KwaMashu, KwaZulu-Natal, has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating the murders of an ANC Youth League member and two eThekwini Metro Police officers.
The arrest followed a lengthy investigation by the KZN Political Killings Task Team into the deaths of Thamsanqa Kingdom Gcabashe, Lindokuhle Madonsela, and Ndumiso Thusi.
Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda revealed the suspect became convinced officer Madonsela was involved in an intimate relationship with his wife, leading to a targeted killing plan.However, the operation went awry when hitmen mistakenly killed Gcabashe outside his home in May 2020.The suspects regrouped and eventually tracked down their intended target, Madonsela, while he was reporting for duty.Gunmen opened fire on his vehicle, killing both officers at the scene.Ballistic evidence linked the two murder scenes, leading to the arrest of five individuals, including the alleged mastermind.The accused face charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.The mastermind is set to appear in court on 27 July 2026, while the case against the other suspects has been postponed for pre-trial proceedings.
