Labour Party nominates Jonathan Gaza as Nasarawa governorship candidate ahead of 2027 elections

The Labour Party in Nasarawa State has officially selected Hon.Jonathan Gaza, who represents the Karu/Keffi/Kokona federal constituency in the House of Representatives, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.The decision was made during the party’s nomination congress held in Lafia, where delegates and party officials participated in the primaries.The returning officer, Dr.

Kalu Ekeh, announced that Gaza emerged as the winner after meeting all constitutional and procedural requirements under the Labour Party constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and the party’s internal guidelines.

He noted that Gaza was duly affirmed by a majority of delegates and would be issued a certificate of return at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

In the same event, the party also confirmed former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, as its candidate for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District by-election scheduled for June 20, 2026, as well as for the 2027 senatorial election in the zone.Maku reportedly ran unopposed and was declared the winner after fulfilling all necessary requirements.The by-election is being conducted following the death of Senator Godiya Akwashiki.In his acceptance speech, Jonathan Gaza pledged to bring transformative leadership to Nasarawa State if elected governor.He promised to end what he described as “business as usual” governance and to harness both human and natural resources for development.Gaza also called on supporters to campaign peacefully and ensure strong voter participation for the Labour Party in upcoming elections.The party further issued certificates of return to other candidates contesting for legislative positions across the state.
