The Lagos State Government has convicted 16 individuals for illegal waste disposal and related sanitation offences.The offenders were arraigned before the Oshodi Special Offences and Mobile Court on July 6, 2026, and each received a four-month sentence for charges like dumping waste in unauthorized locations, failing to use assigned Private Sector Participants (PSPs), and breaching environmental laws.

LAWMA's enforcement team arrested the offenders during surveillance operations at key locations like Gbagada Expressway and Oworonsoki after catching them disposing waste on road medians and drainage channels.LAWMA Managing Director Dr.

Muyiwa Gbadegesin emphasized the government's commitment to enforcing environmental laws, protecting public health, and improving waste management infrastructure.He urged residents and businesses to register with assigned PSPs and comply with regulations to ensure effective waste management.The agency plans to intensify surveillance and collaboration with security agencies to deter violations and maintain cleanliness in Lagos.
