A series of devastating landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in Nagaland’s Mon district on Sunday resulted in at least five deaths and four people missing.Officials confirmed that search and rescue teams have recovered five bodies, including a 16-year-old, while four others remain unaccounted for.A 10-year-old is among the dozen injured.Over 45 houses were completely destroyed in the disaster, which struck multiple locations across the town between 6 am and 2 pm.

Rescue operations are underway involving the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Assam Rifles, local police, and residents.An emergency relief camp has been set up at the Konyak Union office to shelter displaced families.However, efforts face severe challenges as Mon town remains isolated due to damaged roads and flooded areas.Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio announced financial assistance of ₹4 lakh per deceased family and ₹74,000 for the injured.The state government is providing essential supplies and temporary shelter to affected families.Authorities urged citizens to avoid vulnerable slopes and rely on official updates to prevent misinformation.The incident highlights the impact of extreme weather events on Nagaland, with additional damage reported in Tuli sub-division and adjoining areas.The administration is closely monitoring the situation to ensure effective disaster management.
