Legal commentator argues Supreme Court decisions could affect Republican prospects in the 2026 midterm elections

A legal expert and podcast host, Lisa Graves, argued that recent actions by the U.S.Supreme Court suggest the court is becoming increasingly willing to intervene in election-related matters in ways that could benefit Republicans during the 2026 midterm elections.Speaking on the Legal AF podcast, Graves pointed to the court's decision in Louisiana v.

Callais, which allowed changes to Louisiana's congressional map, as evidence that the court has moved away from a traditional reluctance to interfere with election processes during election years.

According to Graves, this development raises concerns about an upcoming case from Mississippi involving the counting of mail-in ballots, which could have significant implications for future elections.

Graves contended that Chief Justice John Roberts and other conservative justices have long-standing views on voting rights issues that may influence their decisions. She also claimed that the court could have institutional incentives to favor outcomes that help Republicans maintain control of Congress.

Graves argued that a Democratic-controlled Congress would be more likely to conduct investigations into ethical and financial disclosure issues involving members of the Supreme Court.

She specifically referenced ongoing public scrutiny surrounding Justice Clarence Thomas's financial disclosures and questions about gifts and loans from wealthy associates, as well as concerns regarding travel funded by donors for Justice Samuel Alito.Graves maintained that these unresolved issues warrant further investigation.

The article primarily reports Graves' opinions and allegations, presenting her concerns about the relationship between Supreme Court decisions, election administration, and potential congressional oversight of the judiciary.
