The sculpture depicts the Argentine captain kneeling with the 2022 World Cup trophy, one arm raised in celebration, symbolizing his historic triumph in Qatar.The monument, which took 18 months to complete and weighs around 70 tons, was inaugurated on June 16 during Argentina’s World Cup debut match.

According to its creator, Aldo Beroisa, it is the largest monument ever dedicated to the football star and has already begun attracting visitors from across the country.The statue also includes symbolic details reflecting Messi’s career, such as his gesture of pointing upward in tribute to his late grandmother.

Officials note that Messi, who turns 39, continues to inspire fans as he extends his World Cup legacy, reportedly reaching a record 18 goals since his debut in the tournament in 2006.His recent performance, including two goals in a 2-0 win over Austria, reportedly secured his status as the tournament’s top scorer.In addition to the statue, a large fan-made mural in the Buenos Aires suburb of Berazategui further demonstrates Messi’s cultural influence.The 6-by-5.5-meter artwork was created over 18 days and includes the names of more than 1,300 supporters who contributed to its completion.The mural captures a relaxed, joyful image of Messi and has drawn praise from the player himself in a video message thanking fans.
