Officials note that Messi, who turns 39, continues to inspire fans as he extends his World Cup legacy, reportedly reaching a record 18 goals since his debut in the tournament in 2006.His recent performance, including two goals in a 2-0 win over Austria, reportedly secured his status as the tournament’s top scorer.In addition to the statue, a large fan-made mural in the Buenos Aires suburb of Berazategui further demonstrates Messi’s cultural influence.The 6-by-5.5-meter artwork was created over 18 days and includes the names of more than 1,300 supporters who contributed to its completion.The mural captures a relaxed, joyful image of Messi and has drawn praise from the player himself in a video message thanking fans.
