Lizzo denies accusations of disrespect towards Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo amid social media backlash

Lizzo has responded firmly to online accusations suggesting she had been disparaging fellow pop stars Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo, insisting that she has never spoken negatively about any artist.

The Grammy-winning singer addressed the controversy after a post on X (formerly Twitter) prompted discussion comparing her 2025 mixtape ‘My Face Hurts From Smiling’ with Taylor Swift’s latest album.

When a user accused her of “talking shit” about Swift, Lizzo rejected the claim and urged the fan to “grow up”, stressing that mentioning another artist by name does not equate to criticism. She reiterated that she has never insulted Swift or any other musician.Lizzo also addressed separate speculation that she had shaded Olivia Rodrigo, who is preparing to release a new album. She strongly denied any negative intent, praising Rodrigo and stating that she would never speak ill of her.

In light of the misunderstandings, Lizzo suggested she might reduce her engagement with stan accounts on social media, explaining that she had been interacting casually with posts she found amusing after returning to X following a break, which had led to confusion. The singer further commented on the increasingly intense nature of online fan communities, joking that the platform had turned into “stanland”.

She also referenced her promotional strategy ahead of her upcoming fifth studio album ‘Bitch’, acknowledging that she has been more active online as part of its rollout, and drawing inspiration from other artists’ marketing approaches.

Alongside the social media debate, Lizzo has recently faced additional public attention for other personal and professional matters, including her ongoing legal dispute with former backup dancers and her criticism of algorithmic bias affecting her music promotion.

Despite the controversy, she continues to promote her forthcoming album, which is scheduled for release in early June and includes singles such as the title track and ‘Don’t Make Me Love U’.
