MAGA Supporters Criticize Reason Magazine Over Its Coverage of Tulsi Gabbard’s Biolab Claims

A dispute erupted within conservative and right-wing circles after libertarian magazine Reason published an article criticizing outgoing Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and her recent disclosures regarding U.S.-funded biological laboratories abroad.

The controversy centers on Reason’s claim that Gabbard’s framing of the issue revives narratives that have previously been associated with Russian disinformation campaigns. Many supporters of Gabbard and former President Donald Trump reacted strongly to the article.Journalist Paul Thacker argued that critics who once dismissed concerns about U.S.-funded foreign biolabs as conspiracy theories are now accusing Gabbard of spreading disinformation despite her release of declassified documents.

Former Trump administration official Michael Caputo also attacked Reason and its science writer Ronald Bailey, accusing them of defending government actions and misleading the public. Some online commentators went further, calling the magazine untrustworthy and suggesting it had sided with the political establishment. The underlying disagreement concerns the interpretation of documents declassified by Gabbard. She stated that the records show long-term U.S.funding for more than 120 laboratories in over 30 countries, including facilities in Ukraine, and accused previous officials of misleading the public about these programs. Her supporters view the documents as validation of concerns that had previously been dismissed. However, critics note that the existence of many of these laboratories and funding programs was already publicly known.

They argue that much of the funding came through programs designed to secure and monitor dangerous pathogens rather than support biological weapons development.According to this view, the debate is not about whether the laboratories exist, but about how their purpose should be interpreted.

The controversy highlights growing divisions within conservative media and political movements over foreign policy, public health, and government transparency.

Reason siding with the establishment, huh? Another example of the so-called 'libertarians' defending the empire's dirty secrets. Tulsi's bringing attention to this stuff, and they gotta attack her. Folks need to look at the documents themselves, not what these defenders of the status quo are saying.
