Majority of Filipinos Support Senate Impeachment Trial for VP Sara Duterte, Survey Shows

A recent survey by OCTA Research indicates that support for a Senate impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte has risen to 74% as of April 2026, up from 69% in March.

The Tugon ng Masa (TNM) survey, conducted from April 20 to 24, involved 1,200 adult Filipinos aged 18 and above and used face-to-face interviews with a ±3% margin of error. The survey found consistent majority support across socioeconomic classes, with Class ABC at 74%, Class D at 75%, and Class E at 73%.

Regional differences were observed, with the highest support in the Visayas (82%), NCR (81%), and Balance Luzon (77%), while Mindanao showed the lowest support at 58% and the highest opposition at 41%, reflecting the region's historical political alignment with the Duterte family.

The survey emphasized that public backing is for the constitutional process of impeachment and does not imply judgment on Duterte's guilt or potential conviction.

The House of Representatives impeached Duterte on May 11 on allegations including culpable violation of the Constitution, graft, corruption, betrayal of public trust, bribery, and other high crimes. The Senate, convened as an impeachment court, is expected to start the trial on July 6, 2026.

This latest survey shows a five-percentage-point increase from March but remains below the 80% support recorded in July 2025 and 78% in April 2025 for impeachment-related issues.
