The 12th annual Mammoth Lakes Film Festival, held from May 20 to May 24 in the California mountain town, has announced its award winners, recognizing a diverse slate of independent films across narrative, documentary, and short film categories.
The jury prize for Best North American Narrative Feature went to “Mono 222,” directed by Quinton Dominguez, which also received a $1,000 cash award and a $15,000 Panavision camera rental grant.
In the Best International Narrative Feature category, “Dreaming of Lions,” written and directed by Paolo Marinou-Blanco, secured top honors along with a $1,000 prize, while “Tony Odyssey” received an honorable mention.In documentary features, “I Got Bombed at Harvey’s,” directed by Amy Bandlien Storkel and Bryan Storkel, was named Best Documentary Feature.The documentary Bravery Award went to “Sugarfly” by Max Schoenfeld.
Audience awards highlighted broader viewer engagement, with “Danny Is My Boyfriend” winning Best Narrative Feature Audience Award, “Tony Odyssey” taking Best International Narrative Feature Audience Award, and “Nuisance Bear” winning Best Documentary Feature Audience Award.
Additional jury awards included Best Screenplay for “The Unseen,” Best Narrative Short for “Reunion,” and honors across international shorts, documentary shorts, animation, and music videos.Festival director Shira Dubrovner emphasized the event’s role in showcasing independent voices and fostering creative storytelling.The festival highlighted both emerging and established filmmakers, reinforcing its reputation as a platform for innovative independent cinema.Overall, the awards underscored the continued vitality and diversity of global independent filmmaking.
