The trial of Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala, an alleged member of the 'Big Five' cartel, and four co-accused individuals has commenced in the Johannesburg High Court.Matlala and two alleged hitmen remain in custody after being denied bail, while his wife and another co-accused are on bail.

The case involves 25 charges linked to three failed assassination attempts targeting Matlala's former girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane; businessman Joe Sibanyoni; and music producer Seunkie Mokubung, known as DJ Vettys.These alleged attempts occurred between August 2022 and January 2024.All five accused are expected to plead not guilty.
