Montreal Lawyer Remains Detained Amid Multiple Child Sexual Offence Charges

Daniel Rochefort, a 72-year-old civil lawyer from Montreal, has been denied bail following charges including child luring and sexual assault.He was first arrested on May 7 and faces allegations of communicating online with an undercover officer posing as a 12-year-old girl, as well as producing child sexual abuse material.

Subsequent court proceedings revealed nine additional charges, including an accusation of sexual assault against a minor between 2007 and 2012, with alleged offences occurring both in Montreal and abroad.

During his bail hearing, Rochefort and a supporter testified, but Quebec Court Judge Andrée Perrault cited the Crown's evidence and public safety concerns, keeping him in custody.A publication ban prevents the disclosure of certain evidence presented in court.

Police warn there may be additional victims and are requesting anyone with relevant information to come forward, either directly or anonymously through Info-Crime Montréal.
