Morocco targets 2027 completion of 115,000-seat Casablanca stadium for 2030 World Cup final bid

Morocco is pushing ahead with plans to complete a massive new stadium near Casablanca that is being positioned as a potential venue for the 2030 FIFA World Cup final.

According to a project official, the aim is to have the stadium finished by the end of 2027, strengthening Morocco’s case in its joint hosting arrangement with Spain and Portugal. The proposed venue will have a capacity of around 115,000 spectators, making it one of the largest football stadiums in the world.Construction is progressing steadily, with around 30% of the project already completed after nine months of work.Officials report that approximately 40% of the tribunes have been built so far.

The site is being developed on a 150-hectare area surrounded by farmland and forest, and work is being carried out continuously in three shifts to meet tight deadlines. The stadium is expected to cost around $1 billion and is being constructed by Moroccan listed companies TGCC and SGTM.

Alongside the stadium itself, major infrastructure upgrades are planned, including new highways and a railway connection linking Casablanca and Rabat to improve access to the venue.

Design-wise, the stadium will feature a large tent-inspired roof influenced by traditional Moroccan architecture, intended to allow natural light inside.

Botanical gardens will also be incorporated to reflect Morocco’s diverse landscapes, with architects describing the concept as an effort to “deurbanise” the football experience.

While Morocco is investing heavily in the project, FIFA has not yet confirmed where the 2030 World Cup final will be held, with competition expected from venues in Spain. The final decision remains open as preparations continue across all host nations.
