Multan police have booked veteran politician Javed Hashmi and his three sons-in-law in four cases related to alleged electricity theft.The FIRs, registered under Section 462J of the Pakistan Penal Code, allege that the accused tampered with electric meters to siphon power, causing significant financial losses to Mepco.

Each individual faces charges linked to specific meter numbers and calculated damages: Hashmi’s case involves Rs249,100 in losses, while his sons-in-law are implicated in amounts ranging from Rs245,600 to Rs247,600.The complaints were filed by Mepco’s Sub-Divisional Officer, Mohammad Bilal, after inspections revealed unauthorized loops in the meters.

Hashmi’s grandson confirmed no arrests have been made yet, and the politician himself acknowledged the cases on social media, vowing to face legal action without seeking bail.The incident highlights ongoing challenges in combating electricity theft, a persistent issue in Pakistan’s energy sector.
